The folks at Pennzoil took a thoroughly customized Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon for a punishing blast through the desert. Luckily for us, they filmed it.
This video is ostensibly designed to promote Pennzoil's synthetic engine oil, but it also gives us a great look at one of the ultimate joyrides. The Wrangler itself has been souped up for Baja duty with upsized tires, a suspension lift, and no shortage of appearance add-ons, but Pennzoil says its 3.6-liter V-6 gasoline engine hasn't been modified other than the addition of its synthetic motor oil.
Despite ambient temperatures that tickle 130 degrees Fahrenheit (54 degrees Celsius), and some of the most aggressive driving we've seen filmed lately, the Wrangler stays cool and under control.
There is, of course, an advertising message embedded in the video, but we enjoyed watching it for the off road footage alone. It is especially poignant since the current Wrangler is nearing the end of its lifecycle.
Don't miss Pennzoil's previous installations in the series, which feel more like Need 4 Speed video games than marketing B-Roll. Previously, Pennzoil ripped through a deserted city street in a Ferrari [NYSE:RACE] 488 GTB and tricked us (if only for a moment) with a Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat.
