• New EV brand Scout launches with Terra pickup and Traveler SUV
  • Lifestyle-oriented modes likely planned
  • Production starts in 2027 at South Carolina plant

Volkswagen Group's new U.S.-based Scout brand looks to be readying various lifestyle-oriented modes for its upcoming electric Terra pickup truck and Traveler SUV, following a strategy already used by Rivian and Tesla.

A TikTok video by user Jordantsanford takes us on a tour through Scout's recently revealed Traveler SUV concept, and revealed in the short clip at about 41 seconds is a menu on the infotainment screen for selecting from various modes, including a Pet mode.

We reached out to Scout and learned that the company is looking at potentially introducing not only a Pet mode but also Camp and Night modes.

The Pet mode is similar to the Pet Comfort and Dog modes offered by Rivian and Tesla, respectively. If you choose to leave your pet behind, it allows you to manage the climate control settings of the vehicle while you're away from it.

The Camp mode is designed to allow the vehicle owner to manage audible sounds, energy settings, lighting, and more while outdoors.

And the Night mode is designed to dim displays and lighting around the vehicle to lower light pollution when you're out trying to appreciate a starry night sky.

Right now these modes are still at the concept stage, but an update will be given closer to the start of production, Scout said.

Another feature the company plans to offer is air suspension with active dampers.

Scout presented the Traveler SUV concept alongside a Terra pickup truck concept last week in Nashville. Reservations are already being accepted and prices have been confirmed by the company to start below $60,000 for both models. Range on electric power alone will be over 350 miles but a range extender, in this case a gas engine, will be available and will take total range up to more than 500 miles. Production will start in 2027 at a plant in South Carolina.

During the presentation, Scout also teased a third vehicle. While the vehicle's identity is unknown, Scout said it isn't opposed to launching an SUV with a removable roof at some point.
