• Jeep to build electrified Wagoneer alongside gas model at Warren Truck Assembly Plant by end of 2025
  • Electrified Wagoneer expected to use Ram 1500 Ramcharger's series plug-in hybrid powertrain
  • Battery-electric Wagoneer may follow in 2027

Stellantis on Wednesday announced a series of production updates for three of its Michigan plants, and included in the announcements was confirmation of an electrified Jeep Wagoneer by the end of 2025.

The automaker said it will invest approximately $97.6 million to prepare the Warren Truck Assembly Plant for the electrified Wagoneer. The plant is where the gas Wagoneer is built, and the two will share a production line.

Stellantis described the electrified Wagoneer as one of “four Jeep EVs” due globally by the end of 2025, though the vehicle is thought to be a series plug-in hybrid sharing technology with the 2025 Ram 1500 Ramcharger, rather than a pure battery-electric vehicle.

The 1500 Ramcharger is based on Stellantis' STLA Frame platform designed for hybrid and electric vehicles with body-on-frame construction, and the same will likely be the case for the electrified Wagoneer.

The powertrain will also likely be common to both vehicles. The 1500 Ramcharger combines a 92-kwh battery with a 3.6-liter V-6 acting purely as a generator. Ram quotes a peak output of 663 hp for the truck's electric drive system, plus a range of 145 miles with the battery alone and 690 miles with combined use of the battery and gas engine. Expect similar numbers for the electrified Wagoneer.

News of the electrified Wagoneer was first mentioned in a UAW document published in November 2023. The document also indicated that an electric Wagoneer will be launched in 2027, and that the gas Wagoneer will receive refreshes in 2025 and 2027. Given the timing, those refreshes will likely coincide with the arrival of the electrified and electric Wagoneers.

Other announcements by Stellantis on Wednesday included confirmation that the 1500 Ramcharger and 2025 Ram 1500 REV electric truck will be produced at the Sterling Heights plant, where the gas 1500 is built.

Stellantis also announced that the Dundee Engine Plant will be used to build components for the STLA Frame and STLA Large platforms, in addition to new 4-cylinder engines, including a 1.6-liter turbo-4 that will be used for a hybrid powertrain launching in 2025.
