When Rimac revealed the Nevera in 2021, the Croatian brand intended the 1,914-hp electric hypercar to be a GT of sorts, with plenty of performance but also the comfort to drive thousands of miles. On Friday, Rimac unveiled the Nevera R, a "lighter, faster, and more focused" car aimed at carving corners. Rimac says R stands for radical, rebellious, and relentless.
Rimac updated the battery, brakes, suspension, and power of the car to turn it into the R. Rimac revised the steering for sharper responses, dialed in more negative camber, and the car rides on larger and stickier 20-inch front and 21-inch rear Michelin Cup 2 Pilot Sport tires. A new generation of all-wheel-drive torque vectoring from the car's four motors (two front, two rear) results in sharper handling, according to Rimac. The traction control is revised to work with the new AWD system and to offer predictable performance in wet conditions.
The car also has design tweaks that change the look and contribute to additional downforce. A large fixed rear wing and a larger new diffuser are part of an aero package that increases downforce by 15% and aerodynamic efficiency by 10%. Rimac says the changes reduce understeer by 10% and increase lateral grip by 5%, which contribute to a 3.8-second quicker lap time around Italy's Nardo Handling Track.
Rimac Nevera R
Carbon-ceramic EVO2 brakes have a silicone matrix layer and provide better performance, Rimac says.
The car uses the brand's next-generation 108-kwh battery pack and output increases to 2,107 hp. That results in several improved performance figures. Rimac quotes a 0-60 mph time of 1.74 seconds (the same as the Nevera), 0-62 mph in 1.81 seconds, 0-124 mph in 4.38 seconds, and 0-186 mph in 8.66 seconds. The brand also claims a quarter-mile time of 8.23 seconds, a 62-124 mph time of 2.46 seconds, and a top speed of 256 mph (with manufacturer oversight).
Rimac Nevera R
Expect the Nevera R to make a run at the Nürburgring, where the Nevera Time Attack set an electric production car record of 7:05.298 in 2023. The Time Attack is just a paint and trim version of the standard Nevera, so the Nevera R should be quicker.
Rimac presented the Nevera R in Nebula Green, and the company says the interior can sport painted carbon components to match the body, including the dashboard and center console, or it can be personalized for each customer.
Rimac will produce just 40 of the Nevera R. While the company didn't announce a price, expect it to exceed $2 million.
