The 2025 BMW i5, the electric version of the 5-Series midsize luxury sedan, returns essentially unchanged for its second year on the market.

The base price of $68,275, which includes a mandatory $1,175 destination charge, applies to the base i5 eDrive40. This rear-wheel-drive model generates 335 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque from its single motor, which gets it from 0-60 mph in 5.7 seconds, BMW estimates.

The middle child of the lineup remains the dual-motor all-wheel-drive i5 xDrive40, which starts at $71,275. With a second motor powering the front axle, this version of the i5 is rated at 389 hp and 435 lb-ft of torque. BMW lists a 0-60 mph time of 5.2 seconds.

The sportier i5 M60 still sits at the top of the lineup with an $85,275 price tag before options. The M60 also uses a dual-motor powertrain, but with 590 hp and 586 lb-ft. This will get the car from 0-60 mph in a BMW-estimated 3.7 seconds, while adaptive suspension and upgraded brakes provide crisper handling.

All i5 models continue to use an 84.3-kwh battery pack. EPA range ratings haven't been released yet, but for reference the 2024 i5 was rated at up to 295 miles in entry-level eDrive40 form, 266 miles in xDrive40 form, and 253 miles in M60 guise. The highest range ratings for each variant apply to specific wheel and tire combinations.

Gas versions of the 5-Series also return for 2025, and a new M5 joins the lineup with a 717-hp plug-in hybrid powertrain. The M5 sedan was unveiled in June and arrives in the U.S. later this year with a $120,675 base price. A 2025 BMW M5 Touring wagon will be unveiled during 2024 Monterey Car Week and is also planned for the U.S. This market won't get the electric i5 Touring wagon, though.
