There’s been a lot of hoopla over Mark Higgins’ recent setting of the blistering 17:35 lap time for the Isle of Man TT.
However, Higgins isn’t the fastest around the winding 37.73-mile course. He’s only the fastest on four wheels, in this case a modified Subaru WRX STI.
The honor of fastest at the TT goes to rider Michael Dunlop, who on Saturday set a time of 16:58.439 (average speed of 133.393 mph) on the back of a BMW S1000 RR Superbike. It's the first time anyone has cracked the 17-minute barrier at the TT.
We now have a video of the record-setting run—and all of its insanity. Those prone to fits may want to avoid watching.
It’s scary to watch how close 27-year-old Dunlop comes to the edge of the road, as just a momentary lapse of concentration could end it all. In fact, we’re sad to report that there were a couple of deaths this year.
