Jewel
We haven't heard much from Jewel in a while, and many of us were beginning to think that she might've headed off to a retirement Vanagon somewhere in Alaska, bringing her chapter in American pop music (and her brief footnote in American poetry) to an end. But now we know that Jewel is still alive and kicking -- and for that, we have the Cadillac SRX to thank.
On Friday morning, Jewel was in an accident near the 2,000+ acre ranch in Stephenville, Texas that she shares with her husband, Ty Murray. Apparently, the collision was pretty severe, because she later tweeted, "1 thing I do know is my car saved my & baby's life-definitely going 2 get another Cadillac SRX! It absorbed all the damage & kept me safe!"
Which, while terrible for grammar sticklers, is great for Jewel and her unborn baby boy, and it's certainly in keeping with our high opinion of the SRX. But -- and maybe we're jaded (which is kind of like being jeweled, but greener) -- does that tweet sound just a tad name-droppy? You know, as it someone's angling for a spokesmodel's job? Is that the sort of future Jewel envisions, now that Lilith Fair is kaput -- a future full of endorsements? And more importantly: could she unseat the current owner of the Cadillac gig, Cowboy Curtis aka Morpheus aka Laurence Fishburne? We'd set the odds at 50/50.
P.S. Has anyone ever seen Jewel and fellow Texan Renee Zellweger in the same room together? Because we have a theory....
