To most Americans, Spyker is little more than some unknown Dutch company that bought Saab earlier this year. To Saab fans--and lovers of bizarre, ornate, and fast machinery everywhere--Spyker is much more. And the C8 Laviolette is a great example of what the company is all about.
Powered by a 400-horsepower 4.2-liter Audi V-8 engine, the Laviolette offers high-end sports car performance with a completely unique look. The aircraft motif of Spyker's cars even fits well with Saab's "Born from jets" tagline, though the over-the-top machine-turned surfaces, all metal-and-leather interior, and quirky (to say the least) windows may not be for everyone, though it's no patch on the freaky-yet-fantastic C8 Laviolette LM85.
Thanks to the purchase of Saab, Spyker is also now more relevant than ever here in the U.S., with Spyker cars to be sold through Saab dealerships. There's no denying it's a very interesting piece of performance car tech, either, and Jay's look at the car gives us more detail than we've seen so far. Enjoy.
