There's crazy, there's insane, then there's totally ape--Rod Millen's 1998 Toyota Tacoma Pikes Peak "truck" is definitely the latter. Pushing 1,000 horsepower from a 2.1-liter engine, the tube-framed vehicle is anything but a truck, and anything but a Tacoma. But it's still not as fast or as wild as his 1996 Toyota Celica, used to set the record that stood from 1994 until 2007, when it was broken by Nobuhiro "Monster" Tajima driving a Suzuki XL-7 that's every bit as non-standard as Millen's Tacoma.
And for good measure, no collection of Pikes Peak videos would be complete without a look at Ari Vatanen's famous 1990 run, and just for grins, it's followed up by Walter Rohrl's attack on the mountain in the infamous Group B Audi S1. For our money, the skittering blow-off valves and ridiculous skills of Rohrl in the Audi are the cream of this crop, though the other videos are great watching as well. Enjoy, and sorry for blowing a hole in your Monday.
