The LA Auto Show Design Challenge is on again, this time getting designers to transform the future of driving into an environmental experience. The initial challenge comes from Mercedes Benz of North America with their Recy roadster entry, which combines spirited driving with an environmental touch. It is entirely constructed of recyclable materials including wood, alloys, glass and rubber and represents the company’s California roadster of the future concept.

This is the challenge’s third year, and this time there are nine different entrants. Some of the other designs include beach, mountains and deserts themes, which represent the diversity of LA. Our favorite is the idea of using a car to convert CO2 into pure oxygen. A winner will be picked on November the 30th by judges Bill Van Amburg of Calstart, Tom Matano of San Francisco's Academy of Art University, Imre Molner of Detroit's College for Creative Studies and Stewart Reed of Pasadena's Art Center College of Design.
