With the ensuing rise in oil prices around the world, the quest for alternative fuels and more efficient vehicles becomes ever more important. Saab has combined the best of both worlds with its bio-ethanol powered hybrid concept. Luxury hybrid vehicles are still a niche and Saab, a company known for innovative design, hopes it can tap that segment.
Based on the Saab 9-3 Cabriolet, the hybrid concept runs on pure E100 bio ethanol but also has a trio of electric motors. Total output is a respectable 260 horsepower, with drive going to the rear wheels.
Other features that the concept has include an engine stop-start system, a regenerative braking system that helps charges its battery, and an all-electric mode for city driving. The stunning Saab Aero X will be displayed alongside the hybrid for the length of the show.
